Best Move

Let's learn how to use the Best Move feature

The Best Move feature on your ChessUp 2 provides you with what Stockfish considers to be the best move. The Best Move is revealed after you have made your move.

This feature can be used in three game modes: Two Player, ChessUp Bots, and Board Editor. You can enable this feature in the settings menu for each game mode. This setting is saved and restored with every new game, even through a power cycle.

Best Moves will be displayed by showing the starting and ending squares (i.e. e2e4) for your move. If you made the best move, a green box highlights the best move indicator.

The below image illustrates the Best Move feature. In this example, black has just moved. On the right side in the middle of the screen, the best move is provided. In this case, the best move was a queen-side castle (indicated by O-O-O). Since black made a queen-side castle, the green box appears indicating that the best move was played!

You can find the Best Move setting on the game setup screens for each of the three game modes (Two Player, Bots, Board Editor). Combining Best Move with Move Feedback and the Evaluation Bar features provides a great insight into your game play. You will soon learn the blunders you commonly make and start making changes.

Note: If you use the undo (takeback) feature, you might see that the Best Move has changed after to make redo your turn. This is because Stockfish (the engine used to evaluate the game), has some randomness and variation. This is especially the case in the beginning of the game. Rest assured, that if you undo your move to make the Best Move that was provided, you are still making an excellent move.

Now you can start using the Best Move feature to improve your game!
