Move Feedback
Learn how to use the Move Feedback tool to your advantage
The Move Feedback feature is a great way to receive immediate feedback on the quality of your moves. When the feature is turned on, a pop-up will appear after every move you make, providing you with the quality of your move. This feature is supported in the following modes: Two Player, ChessUp Bots, and Board Editor.
Move Feedback can be turned on or off on the game settings page for each game type. Your selection is saved and restored every time you start a new game, even after a power cycle.
Below is an example of the Move Feedback pop-up. During AI games, the pop-up only appears for moves made by the user. For Two Player games, the pop-up will rotate during black's turn.
Below is a legend showing each of the move feedback icons. There are 7 different move qualities.
- Book - moves that shows up in well-established openings that are regularly played by the best chess players.
- Best - moves are determined by Stockfish to provide you with the best chances of winning.
- Excellent - moves that are very strong and considered to be close to the best move.
- Good - moves that are not optimal, but don't cause too much harm.
- Inaccuracy - moves that result in a small reduction in overall position evaluation as calculated by Stockfish.
- Mistake - moves that result in a significant reduction in overall position evaluation as calculated by Stockfish.
- Blunder - moves that are considered to be a major mistake involving a loss of material (pieces), or not capturing material, or a very large drop in the likelihood of winning the game.
In these three playing modes (except in the cases where there are clocks), ChessUp 2 does allow one undo (takeback). If you make a blunder, you can always try again. If you combine this with the Best Move feature, you will be on your way to better understanding the mistakes you commonly make.
