Evaluation Bar
Here's how to enable and use your Evaluation Bar
During a Two Player over the board game or a Built-In Bot game, an Evaluation Bar (powered by Stockfish) can be used to better understand the state of the game (i.e. who is winning).
The Evaluation Bar is an option that can be turned on during the setup of a game. When it is enabled, it will be shown on the left side of the game screen as a black and white vertical scale.
If white is in a winning position, the bar will be more white. Conversely, if black is in a winning position, the bar will be more black.
The number at the center of the Evaluation Bar is the centipawn score (divided by 100) provided by Stockfish. It is a score that indicates how ahead or behind a player is at that point in the game.
On your ChessUp 2, if the score is positive, it means white is winning. If the score is negative, it means black is winning.
The Evaluation Bar is a scaled version of this number. In the below image you can see that white has a substantial advantage. The Evaluation Bar is mostly white (left side) and the score is high.
When checkmate is possible, the score will change to a "mate score." It will be indicated by the letter "M" and a number. The number indicates how many moves away checkmate is if the best move line is followed. A negative mate score means that black is close to checkmating white.
At the beginning of the game the evaluation bar will be almost centered. White has a slight advantage, since white moves first.
