Minimal Lights Mode

Learn how to activate Minimal Lights Mode

It might be desirable to reduce the how much the board lighting is used during a game. This can be useful when training for a tournament where boards with lights are not permitted. When you enable this option, a warning is displayed in the game setup page to remind you that Minimal Lights Mode is active.

The "Minimal Lights Mode" is turned on/off in the Settings menu. When this is selected, touching a piece will no longer show all the available moves. Your opponent's move will also only show the starting and ending squares. Misplaced pieces, in-check, and move confirmation will still be indicated with lights.

Minimal Lights Move in Settings Menu

If you have minimal lights mode enabled and you turn assistance on, the move confirmation blink will show the move quality with the colors as it normally does with assistance. This allows you to get a better sense about the strength of your move.

Note: When this feature is enabled, a message will appear at the top of all game setup screens indicating that Minimal Lights is turned on. This is there to remind you that the lights will not function in the standard way.
