User Profiles

Learn how to expand your ChessUp to allow multiple users with Profiles!

Profiles allow for multiple users to have different online accounts (i.e. chess.com, Lichess, etc) and completed game storage*. Each user profile can be customized with a profile name and user color. Adding and switching between profiles is easy and fast!

Note: If there is more than one profile on the board, you will be asked to select the profile when you turn on the board. If there is only one profile, you will not see this selection screen at startup.

Note: Each ChessUp board allows up to 5 user profiles. Language and WiFi is a global setting and not set per user.

Setup

User profiles can be found under Settings-> User Profiles. By default there is one user profile called "Profile 1". You can edit this Profile by pressing on the Profile tile.

Creating Other Profiles

On the Profile Selection page you can add a new profile by pressing the "Add New" button. This auto-creates a new profile with a default name and brings you to the Profile Edit page. It will also automatically connect (set as current user) the new profile and disconnect the previous profile. At this point you can edit the profile name, color, and connected accounts (see below).

Connecting Online Accounts

For the currently "Connected" profile, on the Profile Editor page, there are options to connect your Chess.com, Lichess, and ChessUp* accounts.

Note: Before starting the process, make sure you are signed into the correct ChessUp account in the app. Otherwise, the wrong credentials may be synced to the board.

Press the online account you would like to connect. A new screen will pop-up instructing you to open the ChessUp app. Stay on this screen, open the ChessUp app (see note above), and follow the in-app instructions. Repeat these steps for other online accounts you would like to connect.

Connecting a ChessUp account before changing the profile name sets the profile name to the selected ChessUp account name. You can still change your profile name on the ChessUp board. When doing so, it will not change your ChessUp account name.

If you are on the edit page for a disconnected account, the accounts will show the connection status, but they can't be changed. You must switch profiles by selecting "Connect" before connecting online accounts.

Switching Profiles

To switch the current user, go to the Profile Selection page and press the desired profiles tile. This will bring you to the Profile Edit page. At the bottom of the page press the "Connect" button. This will change the profiles status to "Connected". All your accounts will be logged into. You will now see the profiles icon in the status bar as shown in the below picture.

Delete Profiles

To delete a profile, go to the Profile Selection page. Select the profile you wish to delete by pressing the profiles tile. This will bring you to the Profile Edit page. You cannot delete the current user. If the profile you are trying to delete is the current user, the delete button will not be available. Switch to another profile first then return to the profile you are wanting to delete. If the profile is "Disconnected", a delete button will appear. After pressing the delete button you will be asked to confirm.

*Note: Connecting a ChessUp account allows you to automatically save completed games to a cloud account and analyze the game later in the ChessUp app. You will also be able to export a PGN version of your saved games using the ChessUp app.
